Rails Rumble 2008 project

The men with green jackets are back. And they are doing the same project again.

Finnish advocates from left to right: Matti Paksula, Mika Marttila, Juha Suuraho and Arttu Tervo.

This time we we'll keep it as minimal as possible.

Estimated work hours:

Saturday from point zero to full working flow - 50 hours with full roster
Sunday fixes here and there - 23 hours

Photos lost during a server migration

This blog lost a bunch of photos during a migration process from Dreamhost to Slicehost. We are trying to get those valuable memories back. Panda is once again sad.

Sprint lasted a weekend. Friday was dedicated to the planning and setting the objectives and deliverables. Saturday was used for implementing and eating properly. And rest of the sunday for making sure that we deliver.

And we sure did!

Now it's up to Mika to finish up front-end. Stay tuned!

The Rumble process is at it's best when used by professionals of trade. Most of the tasks in our scrum table are features that have been implemented before. Simplicity of Ruby code makes it even more trivial to implement into the current project.

Our daily scrums between reviews are 30 minutes long and Post-It's move faster than data with my iPhone 3G.

Our first Rumble for a client project

Our first "paid" client project takes place in the rainy city of Turku. Let's see if the process is bullet(client)-proof.

As you can see. Mika is taking a lead here, for he knows what the client wants. Matti, Juha and Arttu follow behind and tell Mika what client needs.

Some statistics

- We worked for 126 man-hours in 48 hours.
- Hourly Scrum worked fantastically!
- Every feature, which did not have an RSpec testcase, now blows up at the production site.
- Our release is only a prototype, not even a public beta.

After this RRRUMBLE, our team has concluded that this is a perfect way for developing a prototype of a web service (except that coding at the last night was a bad idea).

We took our competition web service offline since it had some really stupid errors which were result of late-night developing. Next year we will be better prepared and we will know how to win!

I have been in flu and therefore I have drunk lots of Yerba Maté. During the afternoon I was feeling a little bit ill and I took a nap. I think I had a caffein overdose with Maté.

Now I'm feeling better and I'm back implementing. :)
